Parrots can make great companions, but involve a tremendous amount of time, money and commitment. If you are considering a parrot as a pet, find out important information first. If you already own one or more parrots, get advice on behavior, diet, training and more.

I have been a parrot owner for over 15 years. I currently own a Citron-Crested Cockatoo, a Rose-Breasted Cockatoo, a Congo African Grey and eight budgerigars. I hand-raised the Grey and Citron Cockatoo and adopted the Rose-Breasted Cockatoo. I have been breeding the parakeets for several years.

I have also written articles on bird ownership. My most recent, "Before the Bird", appears in the 2009 edition of Birds USA. It is available on newsstands now or by ordering online at http://www.birdchannel.com.
