Reasons to Convert VB to C#

Converting your company computers from VB to C# can seem a daunting task. If you chose to rewrite your code, it will cost you potentially thousands of dollars and thousands of hours for your programmers to convert VB to C#. So why convert to C#? There is a faster way than rewriting, as well as many benefits to using C# over other programming languages. Converting VB to C# can be done rather quickly with a code conversion engine. A code conversion engine can convert 50 lines per second, allowing a fast and easy conversion from VB.Net to C#. Besides the fast approach to the conversion, there are several reasons why converting to C# is the smart choice.

• Microsoft uses C# for their internal development.

• C# Code is faster than VB.Net Code. VB.Net is the slowest, C# is faster, and C++ is faster still.

• C# allows you to define sections of “unsafe” code, where you can use pointers and directly access memory. This is necessary for low level system access and performance and tuning. There is nothing comparable in VB.Net.

• Terseness and readability of code. C# follows the C, C++, Java syntax tradition, while VB is more verbose.

• IDE Responsiveness – It is difficult to work with a large VB.Net project in Visual Studio

• Improved Code Quality – C# catches many errors allowed in VB.Net, such as variable use before initialization and dead code. It also doesn’t allow undeclared variables, untyped variables, and untyped methods that are allowed in VB.Net.

• C# is an ECMA standards compliant language with a formal definition and a corresponding abundance of third party and open source tools. VB is at Microsoft’s mercy to do whatever they want with it – and they do.

• You can use Mono- An open source C# compiler for unix.

• You can use the Eclipse development environment with C#. Many consider the Eclipse development environment the best there is.

• You can use DotGNU – Another open source C# compiler which supports many operating systems: GNU/Linux (on PCs, Sparc, iPAQ, Sharp Zaurus, PlayStation 2, Xbox), BSD, Cygwin/Mingw32, Mac OS X, Solaris, and AIX.

C# was designed to be a simple and general-purpose programming language created because of the flaws found in the other major programming languages. C# applications are intended to be economical with regards to memory and processing power requirements. Therefore, it is smart to convert VB to C# [] for an improved working system.

Counting Down the Top Ten Video Games Ever Made – EVER!

Before I get to the list, let me first say that I’ve played a lot of video games. From Super Nintendo and Game boy to Xbox 360 and PC, I’ve definitely been around the block a few times when it comes to entertaining my thumbs. However, I also HAVEN’T played a lot of video games. This may seem contradictory to my earlier statement, but let’s face it, not every person has played every video game. Even big name game websites have trouble ranking games because the “rankers” may be biased towards a game they played versus a game someone else said is really good. Therefore, I should probably rename this article “Top Ten Video Games Ever Made (among those I have played)”.

So, without further glitter, here is the list:

10. Kingdom Hearts, (2002 PS2)
Kingdom Hearts was an extremely unique game in that it combined traditional role playing elements (save the world, save the girl, spiky hair, level-up), with fantastic action battles and reminiscent Disney characters, plots, and storylines. The game was an absolute blast to play through several times, and paved the way for a (less successful) sequel. The battles were built right into the worlds (no need to switch to a different screen to enter a battler), and took strategy along with traditional hack and slash methods. Additionally, watching Donald Duck and Goofy demolish heartless after heartless will always reserve Kingdom Hearts a special place in my heart.

9. The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, (1992 SNES)
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past is without a doubt the first game that I really truly became obsessed with. The massive spectrum of the game was quite remarkable for 1992, and the seamlessness in which the world of Zelda worked was unimaginable. The action was intense and at times, excruciatingly frustrating. The sound and color was outstanding. This is definitely one of the few games that got my heart pounding faster than the “beep beep” that meant my health was way too low.

8. Metal Gear Solid, (1998, PS1)
Metal Gear Solid combined excellent graphics, intense action, a unique storyline, and a complete bad ass that we just loved play as into one beautiful package. This was an action game through and through to the core, and yet during some of the cut scenes, we couldn’t help but feel like we were watching a movie or deeply involved into a square rpg. Metal Gear Solid set the tone for 3 sequels, each arguably better than its predecessor.

7. Suikoden (1996, PS1)
I picked up Suikoden about 8 years ago in a bargain bin at my local Gamestop. I had never heard of the game, but it was cheap so I though I’d give it a try. Within the first hour I was hooked. The art style was interesting and unique, and the story was extremely interesting. One of the things that really cements Suikoden into my favorite games list is the aspect of controlling an army. In many rpg games, you can travel around with 3 characters, and switch between a few others. In Suikoden, you travel around with 6 characters, and have the option of switching between over 100 characters! You also have a castle as your “home base”. This uniqueness really vaults Suikoden high above other rpgs.

6. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, (1998 N64)
The Ocarina of Time took the things that made A Link to the Past so successful, like a massive flowing world and incredibly immersive storyline, and thrusted them into a 3D world. With brilliant visuals and sound, a real night and day clock, and exceptional game play, Ocarina of Time is one game that can’t be missed.

5. Super Smash Brothers, (1999 N64)
Super Smash Brothers is without a doubt the greatest multiplayer game I have ever played. Never before in a fighting game could you pit Pikachu against Link, or Fox against Mario. This game flowed so nicely, and the characters were balanced extremely well. While it was lackluster at best as a one player game, the 4 player smash-fests delivered extreme fun and laughter.

4. Pokemon Red and Blue, (1998 Game Boy)
Pokemon was definitely the first game that I actually wished was completely non-fiction. The idea of catching and raising creatures to fight for you was unique and worked wonderfully. Even if Pokemon was a console game, it would have been extremely successful. The added bonus of being able to take it with you wherever you went was amazing. The story was exceptional, and the replay value was second to none.

3. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, (2004 PS2)
With the release of Grand Theft Auto 4 in 2008, almost everyone had taken San Andreas off the GTA throne and replaced it with the new edition. However, I still believe that San Andreas is the best of the series. The storyline was enthralling, unexpected, and exceptional for a game based around the idea of doing the wrong thing. Morals and values came into play, and I became completely involved for 10 days and 35 hours of my life. When it was released, the scope of San Andreas was completely astounding, and unheard of. The soundtrack filled the game out nicely. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas was an experience that shouldn’t be passed up.

2. Starcraft (1998 PC)
Without a doubt, I put in at least 5 times as many hours into Starcraft as I have with any other game. While the single player missions were fun, Starcraft was absolutely about the multiplayer. Never before has a game made me want to beat someone so badly. The ridiculously amazing replay value, in terms of both quantity and quality, makes Starcraft a legend. This is a game so addicting that my time playing it used to be limited by my mother for the sake of my sanity. That’s how great of a game it is.

And now, for the GREATEST GAME EVER MADE (according to me, some don’t even believe it is the best in its long series)…

1. Final Fantasy VII (1997 PS1)
While it had some competition for the top spot in this list with Starcraft, Final Fantasy VII easily takes the thrown as the greatest game ever made. The graphics were absolutely stunning for its time. Every time I look back at the game I say to myself, “wow, the PlayStation was capable of this?” The music and sound were simply fascinating; some of the soundtrack I can listen too over and over again. The expansiveness of the game was incredible, with a giant world and probably 50 hours of main storyline. The side quests and mini games were fun and deep within themselves.

One of the main draws of the game, however, is it’s incredible story. The storyline was incredible unique, and beyond just “saving the girl” and “saving the world”. It didn’t just match cinema like storytelling, but it easily surpassed it.

These qualities make Final Fantasy VII the GREATEST GAME EVER MADE!

Some other games worth mentioning, that didn’t quite crack the top ten:

Gears of War (2006 X360)- An interesting story and incredible shooting action.
Metal Warriors (1995 SNES)- Superb multiplayer action in a quirky, 2d package.
Perfect Dark (2000 N64)- Cool single player, and beautifully unique multiplayer.
Final Fantasy X (2001 PS2)- Amazing graphically, with a immense story to boot.
Gran Turismo 3 (2001 PS2)- Superior realism with slick looking cars and upgrades.
Super Mario World (1991 SNES)- A classic, it defined platforming, and was a lot of fun.

How To Download A New Playstation 2 Game

Do you want a new PlayStation 2 game? Buying Games from your local shop can be expensive and a lot of the time new games can be sold out. Is there a way to download a brand new PlayStation 2 game off the net? And is it legal? You can of course download torrents but this is illegal and can result in you getting caught. So whats the alternative?

There are sites where you pay a monthly fee and join a P2P (person to person) network. You can then download new PlayStation 2 games from other people on the network. But when that person signs out your game stops downloading. Not Good! But there are sites where you pay a small one time fee and get access to there database of games forever.

Is it ethical? Most of the time the sites will pay royalties for the games your downloading and still have cheap downloads because you are the burning them onto CD or DVD yourself. PS2 (playstation 2) games are the easiest to get hold of and download as the games are a lot easier to download and burn.

So which is the best to use? Some sites are better than others and keep there database of games up to date whenever new games come out. Where as some sites will take your fee off you only for you to find that the games on the site are years old. Have a good look at the site before parting with your money. You’ll see which ones are legit.

There are sites that also have games on other platforms (Xbox, Nintendo) along with movie and song downloads available as well as brand new PlayStation 2 games.

Evolution Of Mobile Gaming Industry

From the time in memorial, the earliest games were anything but flexible and responsive. In fact, they were based on fixed algos with extremely limited options.

Its been a couple of years, when the Desktop PC’s had started penetrating/entering Indian customers. No wonders, no one really had an idea of what to do with it. And it looked people buy it for playing games, as it looked to be the most happening thing to do with home computers. From students to businessmen.

No one was aware of that the Gaming Industry is the biggest industry across globe, 2nd only seconded to Hollywood Industry. And the major hardware platform being used was MIPS based processor, unlike x86 based processor in our home computers. The later also was inviting game developers to contribute to the same but the involvement/contribution was very less.

The Technology moves at such a rapid pace, and it is mostly driven by market needs/potential, future growth prospects etc etc. and then came the time when Embedded Operating Systems started getting ported to Cellphone devices. Symbian, WinCE, Smartphone, elinux etc with Symbian dominating the space. It was but obvious for developers as well as end users to look forward to ARM based processors, on which the Devices are built. And since then, there hasen’t been any looking back and the industry has been growing in terms of leaps and bounds. There used to be predictions that one-day the gaming market will reach close to the Hollywood market, and this year (2005), it has already crossed the Hollywood. Forget about coming close.

What Next: Looks as if the ARM processor along with Symbian OS will continue to dominate the success, seconded by e-linux, but the day e-linux makes a mark, it can turn the situation the other way round. The only reason why it has not penetrated the space is because the engineer’s themselves do not have very good understanding, but the companies are trying hard because of the cost advantages.

  • To the gamers, it means better and cost effective technologies to play around with. And entering global ……………., where there are lets say 10,000 users hooked on across the globe playing/challenging/winning/losing.
  • To the Technology freaks, it would mean moving towards wireless and related technologies. Exploring new innovations, in wireless as well as in gaming. Carriers would also play a role, which would again be mostly market driven(GSM? CDMA?). Challenges would include Security issues, as many games like poker etc have huge costs associated with the online games. To Engineers it would mean more challenges, and keeping updated with the latest happenings, and be prepared for future predictions.
  • Lot of innovations are going on to incorporate AI (Artificial Intelligence) into games, aspiring the gamers to have overwhelming gaming enjoyment. The games based on AI (Artificial Intelligence) would obviously adapt and learn in response to the player’s actions and certain general rules, leaving the specific options for game play wide open.
  • Along with Mobile Games, the new generation of PlayStation and Xbox are aspiring to get launched soon. As per the aggressive claims of the vendors including the new Sony PlayStation Portable, a gaming device, will eventually change the way games are played.
  • 3G based mobile phones are expected to become much more popular in the near future and would be able to play games over them.

Find Out What You’re Getting For Your Money … The Nintendo Wii Specs!

Along with pretty much everything else about the Wii, including its name, Nintendo has kept the Wii specs pretty close to its collective chest. Given they’re now out in the open, as well as available to software developers, this is a good time to take an in-depth look at the Nintendo Wii specs and find out exactly what you’re getting for your money.

In all the fuss about the innovative Nintendo Wii controller, it’s been hard to appreciate the underlying excellence of the actual box itself.

The CPU, known as Broadway, was developed and manufactured in association with IBM. It operates at 729 megahertz and bandwidth tops at 1.9 gigabytes per second. The graphics processing unit, developed by ATI, clocks at 243MHZ. It comes with three meg of onboard dedicated graphics memory and 24 MB of high-speed main memory.

The external main memory is 64megabytes of GDDR3 (MEM2) which can be accessed by both the CPU and GPU at a top speed of four gig a second.

The console itself is unusually small, significantly smaller than the PS3 or the Xbox 360. At 8.5 inches high, six inches deep, and a shave under two inches thick (16cm by 21cm by 4.5 cm), it’s about the size of three DVD cases. Even with the stand it takes up less carpet or cabinet real estate than other consoles, and can be stood either vertical or horizontal.

In a real innovation, the optical disc drive (which glows blue) supports both the new 12cm single-sided double-layer game discs for the Wii, and the older 8cm GameCube discs. When a GameCube disc is inserted into the Nintendo Wii, the console automatically adjusts the speed of the GPU to suit the game. The drive reads at a maximum speed equivalent to DVDx6. Inserting a disc automatically turns the console on, and turning it off automatically ejects the disc.

The Nintendo Wii console supports a plethora of peripherals. It can process input from four Wii controllers at once. It also has ports, however, to take four GameCube controllers, increasing its backwards compatibility with the older console, as well as slots for two GameCube memory cards. (It’s not, however, compatible with many of the GameCube’s other peripherals, including its Game Boy player.) On top of this (not literally), the Nintendo Wii also sports two USB ports at the rear and one SD card slot in the front.

Nintendo is adamant that the Wii is compatible with all televisions, existing and forthcoming. It produces up to 480p NTSC or 576 pixels PAL. It works with projectors as well, and supports 16:9 widescreen modes. The console is Dolby ProLogic II capable, and the controller has its own speaker, adding a new dimension to surround sound gaming.

Intriguingly, the Nintendo Wii console connects wirelessly to the internet, even when it’s off. It can download updates from Nintendo’s WiiConnect24 support service at any time, and you can decide for yourself how paranoid to be about that. It connects wirelessly using IEEE 802.11 or a USB 2.0 LAN adaptor. Mii avatars can also be stored on the internet, or downloaded into the controller for transportation between different consoles.

The Wii also has a parental control mode, where the console can be set to refuse to play games rated above a certain level, highlighting Nintendo’s concentration on the family gaming market. Game discs have their rating level encoded on to them, and ratings are keyed with the requirements for each local market.

All in all, even for a seventh generation console, the Nintendo Wii’s specs are impressive.

    Scintillating PS2 Game Cheats

I love ps 2 game cheats. Well…no one loves a cheater. But when it comes to discovering video game cheats, cheating isn’t what you’re doing. I prefer to think of it as discovering shortcuts, tips and tricks, or video game hints.

Most ps 2 game cheats have gotten really complex since the days of PacMan. The game authors have even thrown in back doors and shortcuts to make life interesting for the player.

The problem is most of these back doors are too well hidden. The authors are forced to give information on their whereabouts or no one would ever find them.

Many video games offer game cheats. “Finding Nemo” is a good example. Did you know that there are at least six video game cheat codes hidden there? If you play a video game online, like XBox Live, there are a whole slew of video game hints available.

Of course ps 2 game cheats and game hints are sort of useless if you don’t own any video games. And that’s where video game web sites come in.

Any web site worth visiting will not only have video game reviews and cheats for you to peruse, but they will also have game walkthroughs. Video game walkthroughs differ from cheats in that they actually “walk you through” the process of achieving some goal.

Video game cheats, on the other hand, are often cryptic one or two liners like enter xx312 in the password field.

Professional video game reviews are typically written by paid reviewers who work for video game magazines. These are generally well-written, in depth, and definitely worth reading.

The other most common writer of video game reviews are the actual end users. If purchasing ps 2 game cheats, the key point to remember is that you don’t want to invest in a video game until at least a couple of people have taken the time to write a review of that game.

The video game industry has been participating online. As more and more video game systems opt for Internet connectivity, you’re likely to find that you never have to play video games alone again.

The ps 2 game cheats provide great help when playing these games. Does time fly when you play these games? Does with me! Check out more games ps 2 game cheats [].

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2008 Review

Tiger Woods seems to have the perfect lifestyle. A drop dead gorgeous Swedish supermodel wife, an enormous mansion, fame, money, on Forbes list of celebrities, an adorable daughter, close friends with Charles Barkley, thirteen major championships under his belt, and his very own video game.

Tiger Woods 2008 is the next iteration in the fairly long series of Tiger Woods video games. If you are an avid fan of the Tiger Wood games, you will feel very much at home with the latest installment. Electronic Arts have been notorious for making arcade Tiger Woods golf video games to appeal to the casual gamers, but his year seems different. Unrealistic scores (like 50 under par) are virtually impossible to achieve this time around. The gameplay is similar to the previous games in that it keeps the player immersed in the golf course. One new feature is a revamped putting system which allows you to anticipate the line of trajectory that your golf ball will travel on the green. Even though it is not as useful as Tiger Vision, (which was introduced in Tiger Woods 2005) it still helps to line up the putt. There is a limit to how many times you can utilize this feature, so players should not expect to abuse other players with their putting. Your skill level and difficulty will determine how many times you can use the putt preview.

Another element of the game that might turn a few players off is the golf swing mechanic. The analog sticks are no longer used to hit the golf ball; however, the buttons are used. This alteration may have been because of the lack of challenge with hitting the golf ball with the analog stick. The new way to make contact with the ball is to press the button three times (ala Madden kicking field goals). Once to start your swing, twice to start your downswing, and a third time for accuracy. If it seems too intricate, it really is fairly intuitive. Madden fans can easily make a smooth transition with this gameplay mechanic. Photo face is yet another new feature of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2008. It gives gamers the opportunity to generate their own face and put it in the game. This feature appears to be exclusive to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Electronics Arts has not corroborated a Photo face feature for the Nintendo Wii. Sorry Nintendo Wii owners. The create a golfer aspect is back, and it has the usual things you would expect. You can create a golfer as skeleton-like as Nicole Richie, or as putrid as Rosie O’Donnell. It is all up to the gamer. All of the mini-games remain intact in Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2008. The visuals in the game are brilliant. Everything from the beautiful golf courses to Tiger Woods’ millions dollar smile will appease anyone. Shot Confidence is another original aspect of the game. In a nutshell, playing well gives you confidence. Playing poorly lowers your confidence. Many will be dissatisfied with Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2008, but other will be elated. Overall, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2008 is a solid improvement over Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2007.
