I had one of the first launch models of the Xbox 360 and it had the RED RING OF DEATH(which is a warp of the motherboard) can I still use all the chords and hard drive from the broken 360 on a 360 I buy off ebay with out the chords and hard drive? just don’t want to waste money on things I already have. This would help a lot thanks.

  1. You sure can use all the old cables and the hard drive too 🙂 Your launch Xbox 360 power supply is compatible with all the newer models, so whatever console you buy it will work fine with.

Your hard drive will have your gamertag on it, so you can resume playing on your new console with all your save games and achievements intact. It is just the xbox console that is damaged when the RROD happens, everything else is fine.

  2. Here’s a complete free guide on the RRoD:

You will find out information on how to:

    1: Causes

    2: Prevention

    3: Fixes

    4: Stats

Just get yourself a repair guide, it’s seriously the easiest thing to do and you’ll be up and running same day.

  3. Yes you can. The RROD is a hardware failure. The xbox heats up and warps the motherboard. microsoft shoudl send u a refurbished model, you can still use the cords since it was a hardware problem.

  4. You should be able to use everything except possibly the power brick. There are three types of power brick (203W, 175W and 150W) and each one is designed for a different model of 360 console (Xenon/Zephyr, Falcon, Jasper)

If you had a launch console, you’ve got a 203W power supply so you should be OK for a 203W or 175W console, but you may not be able to plug it into the newest 360s that only need 150W. Microsoft changed the design of the plugs just enough to not make them always fit.
