When it hit me, I was floored. I was deep into Gears of War when it started freezing and then I saw the petrifying RROD (red rings of death). What was going on with my best-loved console? It’s well known that the Xbox 360 breaks often, but this was odd.
I called my gamer friend and asked him if it had happened to him. He told me that it has been happening to so many Xbox 360 owners and that Microsoft takes forever and a day to correct it. The reason that the Xbox gets the red rings of death is that it has a key problem getting too hot. Microsoft doesn’t even care to help you to ship it back by giving you a shipping box for the unit. So now you own a ruined console due in part to a construction defect, but you also have to pay money for the shipping cost to get it fixed!
Here are two awesome tips that may keep your console from breaking.
1) Try to locate your console in a location with acceptable ventilation. My Xbox was located inside of an entertainment center, and when I went to discover what had taken place I found out that the spot was too hot. Over-heating is the biggest issue, so try locating it somewhere better ventilated.
2) In case you are misfortunate enough to get the red rings of death, start by powering down the 360 and letting it cool down for about a few hours. You should also unplug all of the cables and move it to an location with a lot of air flow. Once your console has cooled down try turning it back on and see if it works once again.
I hope that these tips can help you avoid what happened to my Xbox 360.
