xbox 360 controller seen in ” device manager ” but not in ” game controller “?

win 7 64-bit

I’ve seen this issue dating back to 2009. I’ve read that the controller is “picked up” but that communication cannot be sent via wired and that one must install a wireless adapter to the computer.ridiculous sounding I know. Have done ALL of the proper installation tips so don’t respond with those answers and redundant links. Thanks in advance for any help.

  1. It’s not “ridiculous sounding”, it’s accurate.

A wireless controller must sync to a PC through the Wireless Gaming Receiver for Windows to work. Using a play-and-charge cable only allows the PC to charge the batteries in the controller and does not let the controller be recognized as a controller.

A true wired controller should be automatically recognized by Windows 7.
