Different “power bricks” for xbox 360?

So I have an xbox360 (2005 version), and two power bricks/power cords. One is metallic at the end where it connects to the 360, and the other is that same grey plastic all the way through.

The metallic power cord fits into my xbox, the other doesn’t (it seems to be because MS created this power cord with a vertical peg between the prongs, blocking it from entering the 360.)

I have another xbox360 (2007) here, but the power cord doesn’t go in that one either.

I’d like to know what version this cord is supposed to go to, and I’d also like to be educated on how many different power bricks there are out there (and would it be safe if I destroy that vertical peg thing that is blocking it from fitting into the xbox?)

  1. There are 3 different power bricks. Look on the back of each console above the part that says Made In China. It it has a 16,5A it needs a 203W brick; 14,2A needs a 175W brick, and 12,1A needs a 150W brick. If you flip the brick over, you’ll see that they are also labeled. Match those up to the consoles. The older, higher voltage bricks can be used on newer 360s that require less power but the newer bricks can’t be used on the older 360s because they don’t have enough power. It’s best to just plug them into the ones they’re supposed to go into.

  2. Microsoft came out with different variations of power bricks along with different variations of Xboxes. I’m not sure if it would be safe to destroy that vertical peg, but it might be worth a try. I don’t really see a problem in your question, so I don’t know what else you want me to say. But if you need to buy an antiquated power brick, you can determine the type of power brick you need based on the power connector on your Xbox:
